Ingredients
- 12 ozshort pasta (penne or rigatoni)
- 2 cupMarinara Sauce
- 1 lbground beef or Italian sausage
- 1 smallYellow Onion, finely diced
- 3Garlic, minced
- 2 largeEggs
- 1 cupRicotta Cheese
- 2 cupMozzarella Cheese, shredded divided
- 0.5 cupParmesan Cheese, freshly grated
- 1 tspItalian Seasoning
- 1 tbspOlive Oil
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
Instructions
- 1
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate or springform pan.
- 2
Boil the pasta in well-salted water for 2 minutes less than the package directions. Drain and let it steam dry.
- 3
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet and cook the onion until soft. Add the garlic for 30 seconds, then add the meat and cook until browned. Drain excess fat, stir in the marinara and Italian seasoning, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- 4
Whisk the eggs, ricotta, half the mozzarella, and half the Parmesan in a large bowl. Gently fold in the warm pasta so the eggs do not scramble.
- 5
Spoon half the pasta mixture into the dish and press it down. Add half the meat sauce, then the rest of the pasta, then the rest of the sauce.
- 6
Cover with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan. Bake uncovered for 25 to 30 minutes, until bubbling with golden edges.
- 7
Let the pie rest for 10 minutes before slicing so it holds clean slices.
