General FAQ
Is there a cost to sign up for Pantoh?
No, Pantoh is free for users. We make all of our core features free so that we can build a vibrant and active community where anyone can thrive and make cooking work for themselves, regardless of why and how they cook.
What is Pantoh and what does it mean?
Pantoh is a revolutionary recipe platform designed to make cooking easy and personalized. The word “Pantoh” is a Taiwanese word for the traditional roadside banquet where communities and neighbors get together to celebrate life’s biggest events over delicious food. I decided to name this app Pantoh to foster that sense of community that we all desperately need in today’s world.
With Pantoh, you can expect thoughtful designs and features all gear towards making cooking work for our users, regardless of why they cook. We recognize that some of us may cook because we love food but some of us may cook because we have to put food on the table for our families or because of our many dietary restrictions. Pantoh’s features are designed to meet you where you are.
How is Pantoh different from other recipe apps in the market today?
Pantoh recognizes that everyone cooks for different reasons and has innovative features designed to make cooking work for our users.
- Recipe Customization – Pantoh users can easily customize any recipes they find on Pantoh for any reason. Pantoh’s innovative interface allows users to save a new version and even shows you all of the differences.
- Pantoh Community – We believe cooking shouldn’t be a lonely experience. This doesn’t mean that we are a social app. This means that our users can easily find others that share the same dietary preferences or restrictions. Following users that are likely can mean finding cooking inspirations or recipe customizations that work for you much easier.
- Personal Sous Chef – Pantoh works with registered dietitians to provide substitution suggestions for the most common ingredients. This eliminates the need to do last minute research on your phone at the store and empowers you to make decisions that work the best for you. We are continuing to innovate and find more ways to delight our customers.
How do I report issues that I see on Pantoh?
We are big believers in doing what’s right. You will find the “Report” function when you click on the 3 vertical dots on each recipe. We ask that you provide as much information as possible so that we can manage the concern efficiently.
Onboarding FAQ
During registration, Pantoh asks about my dietary preferences and dietary restrictions. What do they mean?
Dietary Preferences
Users can choose from a list of the most common diets in the US. Options include Gluten-Free, Halal, Heart-Healthy, Ketogenic, Kosher, Low Carb, Pescatarian, Vegan and Vegetarian. This option support multi-choices as we recognize that our users may be cooking for the households. This setting can also be updated after registration in the Profile page.
Selections here will help us find the most relevant recipes for you in the For You section of our Discover experience.
Dietary Restrictions
Users can choose a specific allergen or allergen groups. For example, if you are allergic to peanuts only and you can eat other tree nuts, simply use the drop-down to find peanuts, Pantoh will show you only recipes without peanuts in the For You section in Discover. You may find recipes containing peanuts in other sections of Discover.

How do I know if a recipe is a customization or an original on Pantoh?
Pantoh makes it easy for you to find sources recipes versus customized recipes.
Source Recipes – if a recipe is the source, you will see only the Customization (x) button below the dietary badges. The X indicates the number of times this particular recipe has been customized on Pantoh.
Note: A recipe is considered a source recipe if it is created or imported by users in Pantoh. It doesn’t necessarily mean the recipe is an original. The recipe itself can be an adaptation that users have re-created or imported.

If a recipe is a customization, you will see two options: Source Recipe and Customizations (x). Source Recipe takes you to the source recipe and Customizations (x) takes you to the Community Customizations page.
Note: A recipe is a customized recipe, if it is created through the Customize function in Pantoh from another Pantoh recipe. A customized recipe itself can be customized from another customized recipe.

When you click on Customizations (x), you will be taken to the Community Customizations page. You can use the on-screen filters to quickly group customizations based on the reasons, such as flavor preferences or dietary.
